Month-by-month baby photo ideas

A monthly photo is a picture of your baby with the month marked, so you can tell the pictures apart later. One onesie, one sticker, and the same corner of the room if you can swing it.
When they're done, stop and try again after a nap. If January 1 falls in the month you are photographing, baby's first New Year photo ideas uses that month's sticker on the onesie.
Months 1 to 3
The first one can stay simple. Lay them on a blanket on the floor and sit right beside them, or hold them and pass the phone to someone else. Newborns curl, so let the picture show that, with the sticker on the onesie. Newborn onesie photo ideas walks through that first session: window light, a clean onesie, and a short stretch while they're awake.
Around the second month they may look straight at you for a second, so get down to their eye level on the floor. A sleeping photo still counts.
For month 3, try a short tummy-time picture if they'll put up with it. Some push up on their arms, and some complain at once, so stop when they complain. A photo in your arms is still a month-3 photo.
Months 4 to 6
Hands take over around month 4. They get stuck staring at their own fingers, so let that be the picture, even if they're not smiling.
In month 5, a silly sound does more than a prop. Have someone just out of the frame make the noise, then watch the face and take the photo when it changes.
Month 6 can be a sitting photo, but only if they're ready. Stay close enough to catch a tip, and if your hands show in the frame, that's still a month-6 photo.
Months 7 to 9
Keep the background still when you can, and leave the pillows where they were last month.
If they're rolling by month 7, take the photo mid-roll. It'll be messy, so keep it anyway. If rolling hasn't started, use last month's floor setup again, same blanket and a new month on the onesie.
Month 8 is for whatever they can do that month. If they're not crawling yet, the rug is still the right place, and a baby on the blanket with the sticker on the chest is a full photo.
Pulling up on the sofa makes a good month-9 photo when it's really happening, as long as you're close by. If the floor is still where they're happy, stay there.
Months 10 to 12
Bring one toy for month 10, the one they reach for. If you set out a pile, you'll end up picking toys off the blanket instead of taking the picture.
If they're cruising along the furniture in month 11, crouch so the camera is near their eyes. You want the face and the sticker in the frame, rather than another shot of the top of their head.
Take the month-12 picture in the morning, onesie on, before the house fills up. If there's cake later, shoot that too, and keep the quiet morning one either way.
The sticker on the onesie
Stick'Nsnap monthly stickers are necktie stickers that go on the onesie, just a small mark in the frame. Each product page shows the design up close, and the store page has the current stock.
