Newborn onesie photo ideas
The first onesie photo can happen at home. A clean onesie, one monthly sticker, and a few quiet minutes by a window are enough to start.
Soft window light
Take the picture in the daytime, near a window, with the light coming from the side. If a hard patch of sun falls on the blanket, slide over until the light is soft. Don't use the flash. It startles a newborn, and the picture goes flat.
A plain blanket or sheet
Lay them on a plain blanket or a sheet you can use again. A busy print crowds the necktie sticker, so a solid works better. Move the laundry basket before you start, or it'll end up in the frame.
Awake, fed, and short
Try it when they're awake and they've just eaten, if you can catch that stretch. Keep the session short. A couple of shots is plenty. If they fuss, stop and try again after a nap.

Press the sticker onto a clean, dry onesie. A damp spot or a bit of lotion keeps it from lying flat. Place it on the chest so the tie shows, then take the picture.

Hold the phone level with the onesie, so you get their face and the sticker in the same frame. If a partner is with you, hand them the phone and stay with the baby. If you're on your own, use a timer. Take several, since the one you want usually shows up in the middle.
The same spot later
When a corner works, use it again next month. The same blanket and the same window make the later months easier to line up. The sticker is what changes.
Stay with them
Never leave a baby unattended for a photo. Stay close enough to reach them the whole time. Skip anything that looks uncomfortable. If they've had enough, stop. A simple picture on the blanket still counts.
