Milestone stickers or a milestone blanket

Both mark the month. A sticker goes on the onesie. A milestone blanket has the months printed on the fabric, and the baby lies on the one you are marking. You can use one, or you can use both.

What the sticker does

You press a small sticker onto a clean, dry onesie, take the photo, and peel it off. The month sits on the clothes in the picture. It works when the baby is lying down, sitting, standing, or being held.

The month is small. In a wide photo of the whole room, you may not be able to read it. Step closer, or crop later, so the sticker stays readable. You get the face and the month together. You lose the wide view of the blanket.

The sticker is for the photo, not for the rest of the day. Peel it off when you are done. Don't leave it where the baby can chew it. If the onesie is damp, the sticker may not stay flat. Dry the fabric first.

Monthly Onesie Stickers is the blue, turquoise, and gray necktie set. Happy Heroes is another necktie set. Happy Animals is a third design. Baby monthly onesie stickers compares those listings. Using monthly stickers on a baby onesie covers putting one on for the photo.

What the blanket does

A milestone blanket prints the months on one piece of fabric. You lay the baby on the month, and the number is large in the frame. That helps when you want the month readable from across the room.

It fits the months they are content on their back for a minute. You need floor space for the whole blanket, and the same blanket if you want the year to match. Once they roll, sit up, or crawl off, the printed month is hard to keep in the frame. The number ends up under a knee.

The baby can also cover the number you meant to show. If their body hides the month, the blanket is not labeling the photo. Shift them, or accept that this month needs a sticker instead.

When a sticker fits

  • You take the photo in the clothes they are already wearing.
  • You hold them, or they sit, and a blanket is no longer the backdrop.
  • You are away from home and you did not pack a blanket.
  • You want the month on the chest in a close photo of the face.
  • You already have a plain sheet or blanket, and you only need a label.

A sticker also fits a shower gift, because it packs flat. Baby shower gifts with milestone stickers covers that, with a plain onesie or a single frame beside the set.

When a blanket fits

  • You want one backdrop for the early months on the floor.
  • You want the month large, in a photo that shows more of the body.
  • They will stay on their back long enough for one or two frames.
  • You have a clear spot on the floor for the whole blanket.

A blanket gets harder to use once they move around. Put the sticker on the onesie so the month is still in the photo if they leave the fabric.

Use both in the same year

In the early months, put a blanket on the floor and the sticker on the onesie. If you own a milestone blanket, lay them on this month's number and keep the sticker readable on the chest. One photo can show both, if you step back far enough for the number and close enough for the sticker.

If the frame cannot hold both, choose. A readable sticker in a close photo is a finished monthly picture. A readable blanket number in a wider photo is also a finished picture. You do not need both in every frame.

When they will not stay on the blanket, drop it from the shot and keep the sticker. The clothes and the month still match the earlier photos. A plain sheet you already own is a fine background. You do not need a printed blanket to mark the month.

Monthly baby photos at home covers window light and a plain corner for either setup.

What to skip

Don't stack a sticker, a blanket number, a letter board, and a pile of props in one frame. The month gets lost. One label is enough. Two is the most, and only when you can read both.

Don't reuse a photo from another month and change the label. If you miss a month, leave a gap. The other photos still show the year.

Things you should know

Never leave a baby unattended on a raised surface. Put the blanket on the floor, not on a bed or a couch, if they can roll. Stay next to them while you take the photo.

Don't cover their face with the blanket. Keep loose fabric away from a young baby's nose and mouth. Peel the sticker off when you are done, and don't leave it in reach.

Stop when they have had enough. A monthly photo can wait until after the next nap.
