Baby sprinkle gift ideas

A sprinkle is a small party for a second or third baby. The family already has the big things, so bring something small and useful, and one thing that's new for this baby.
Do you bring a gift to a baby sprinkle?
A small one is fine. WebBabyShower says a sprinkle won't need large gifts like a stroller, high chair, or crib, because those came with the first baby. If the invitation says no gifts, follow it. You can bring something to their home later. If the family is adding a second seat, the gear shelf has double strollers.
What do you get for a second baby?
Things the family uses up or has outgrown. MyRegistry lists diapers, wipes, clothing in larger sizes, books, and small items that need refreshing or replacing. A few ideas:
- Diapers and wipes in size 1 or 2.
- Clothes in 3–6 or 6–12 months, since the newborn drawer is often already full of hand-me-downs.
- A board book for the shelf.
- A meal for the week the baby comes home.
For more on giving off the list, see what to give at a baby shower that isn't on the registry.
What's new for this baby?
Photos. The first baby's monthly photos are already on the wall. A new sticker set gives this baby a year of their own. Monthly Onesie Stickers has 16 necktie stickers, from Just Born through one year. Happy Heroes has 17 and adds 1, 2, and 3 weeks. Pick a different design from the first set, so each child's photos look like their own. How monthly stickers work shows the setup.

Should you bring something for the older sibling?
It's a kind touch. MyRegistry suggests including older siblings in age-appropriate ways. A small book or a crayon set for them helps a sprinkle feel like a family day. For the announcement photo, the pregnancy announcement photo ideas include Big brother in training and Big sister in training stickers.
Are hand-me-downs safe to reuse?
Check before the baby uses them. The CPSC says to check cpsc.gov/recalls before you buy or sell a used baby product. It says cribs made before June 28, 2011 are very likely noncompliant and unsafe.
For a used car seat, NHTSA gives a checklist:
- The seat has never been in a moderate to severe crash.
- It has labels with the date of manufacture and the model number.
- It has no recalls.
- It has all its parts and its instruction book.
What should stay out of the crib?
Skip blankets, pillows, and bumpers as gifts. The AAP says to use a fitted sheet only, with nothing else in the crib with your baby. Use a firm, flat sleep surface.
Quick checklist
- Bring one small, useful gift.
- Add one thing that's new for this baby.
- Bring a little something for the older sibling.
- Check any hand-me-down crib or car seat for recalls.
- Keep soft things out of the crib.
